How large an object can I scan?

The size of the object depends on the camera and projector configuration, as well as on the calibration pattern being used.

Using a 10mm (3/8-Inch) calibration pattern you can scan objects as small as 76mm (3-Inch) and as large as 305mm (12-Inches), the scanning window is 320mm (12 5/8-Inch). Using a 20mm (~3/4-Inch) calibration pattern you get a 640mm (25 3/16-Inch) scanning window, which means you can scan objects that fit within that window. You can scan large objects using either grid pattern and stitch the scans into a full 360 degree model.

How long does it take to scan?

Scan time depends on lighting conditions/settings and the type of camera you use.

A single scan completes between 2-3 seconds. The time required to scan a full object depends on the size of the object and the number of scans required for that object.

How accurate is the scanner?

Accuracy will depend on certain factors including, camera and projector type, lighting and other factors as with any 3D scanner.
Using a 10mm calibration pattern, with a Hitachi 1024x768 projector, and a Nikon D50 with a 18-50mm A/F lens, you can obtain accuracies of up to +/- 0.001" or 0.025mm

Is the demo data edited?

We have made every attempt to show the scan data and the triangulated model in their raw state on the website. Where indicated, the data has been edited or cleaned with rapidform2006 or rapidformXO Scan. The scan data samples included with the Demo version of the software are un-edited and are in their raw state.

Does it produce a 360 model?

The way most scanning works is that an object is scanned in sections (i.e. every 45 degrees) and then the scans are aligned, merged and triangulated in a scan data processing software.

Currently, FlexScan3D Pro Package is bundled with Leios Studio to enable users to quickly align, merge, triangulate and optimize scan data to create a watertight mesh.
