How large an object can I scan?

The size of the object depends on the camera and projector placement, as well as the type of lens being used. For the HDI 3D scanning systems the scanning field of view ranges from 15cm diagonal to 2 meters diagonal.

How long does it take to scan?

Scan time depends on lighting conditions/settings and the type of camera used. Roughly to 10 to 15 images need to be captured so higher speed cameras scan faster than lower speed cameras. An average scan takes between 1 to 6 seconds. The time required to scan a full object depends on number of total scans required for that object.

How accurate is the scanner?

Accuracy will depend on certain factors including the scanning field of view, camera resolution and projector resolution. These items are configurable with our FS3D software. For specific numbers for our HDI scanner, please see the specifications for each individual HDI scanner.

What is the difference between the HDI 3D Scanner and the FlexScan3D Development Kit? Which one should I choose?

The HDI 3D Scanner is intended for users who having little or no prior experience in using a 3D scanner. The HDI 3D Scanner comes with one pair of HD machine vision cameras and one pair of lenses.

The FlexScan3D Development Kit is designed for engineering or development companies who want more involvement in the 3D scanner development process with moderate technical assistance from 3D3 Solutions. The kit includes two pairs of HD machine vision cameras and four pairs of lenses. Users who purchase the FlexScan3D Development Kit normally have a solid background in 3D scanning and like to experiment with different cameras and lenses to get their desired 3D scanning results.
