Hardware Requirements

FlexScan3D with a PC, Digital Camera, and Projector is all that is needed to build a powerful 3D scanning system. Add components to expand and customize the scanning system as needed.

Windows PC

Minimum Requirements

  • Windows XP or Vista
  • 2.0 Ghz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon XP or equivalent
  • 512 MB RAM (2 GB Ram Recommended)
  • DirectX 9.0c compatible 64MB video card (256 MB recommended)
Digital Camera

Any 1+ MegaPixel Camera.

  • A supported digital camera can be directly controlled by FlexScan3D.
  • Unsupported cameras only work in manual scanning mode.
Light Projector

Any presentation projector. 800x600 Minimum (LCD or DLP)

Digital Cameras with Windows Drivers that support Picture Capture Capabilities.

Please check your camera using the Generic driver in FlexScan3D, we've tested a number of cameras and usually come up 50/50 for support.

  • Most newer Canon Powershot cameras
  • Most newer Nikon and HP Digital cameras
  • Generally most newer digital cameras will work

While point and shoot and cameras will work, the speed of capture and image quality will hinder your ability to get high-quality scans. We recommend using a Nikon or Canon SLR to capture good 3D Scans

Video Cameras

  • Most windows (WIA/WDM) compatible video camera devices can be controlled by FlexScan3D. A video camera allows 3D capture 10 times faster than a digital camera. (Under a second) Although any WDM compatible video camera will work, webcams will result in low quality scans that contain a large number of errors.

    We've tested with the uEye LE line of USB machine vision cameras. These cameras are the size of small webcams, run at a high frame rate and have good optics suitable for 3D scanning. Most quality machine vision camera will create good 3D scan results.

    If you have a non-WDM compatible camera, FlexScan3D allows you to import AVI's directly in to the software for processing.

Light Projectors

  • Any Projector Capable of at least 800x600 or 1024x768 Resolution

Lasers

  • Any color line laser. Green or Red lasers are recommended for most subjects.
  • Requires custom motion controller driver. Availability dependent on usage and industry.
