FlexScan3D Hardware Requirements
With FlexScan3D Software, all you need is the following off-the-shelf hardware components to create a 3D scanning system:
- 1 or 2 digital camera(s)
- Presentation projector
- XP or Vista PC with a 3D video card
- Tripod and Mounts for Cameras, Projectors and Cables
Windows PC
Minimum Requirements:
- Windows XP or Vista 32bit/64bit
- 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon XP or equivalent
- 1GB RAM (2 GB RAM Recommended)
- DirectX 9.0c compatible 64MB video card (256 MB recommended)
- Note: FlexScan3D will not work on Netbook and on systems using Intel Integrated Graphics card.
Digital Camera
- FlexScan3D Software can directly control compatible camera devices
- Unsupported cameras only work by using the manual image import driver
- For Duo Scan mode, both cameras must return exactly the same resolution images
Supported Cameras
We recommend a quality machine vision camera to create good 3D scan results. Contact 3D3 Solutions to purchase machine vision cameras for high speed data capture.
Machine Vision Cameras
- IDS Imaging uEye (SE/LE/RE) cameras (All USB/GigE Models)
- Prosilica (All models)
- The Imaging Source(All models) *coming soon*
- Any MV Camera with support WDM / DirectX Video driver
Although any WDM compatible video camera will work, webcams will result in low quality scans, we do not recommend using one.
Digital SLR Cameras
Please check your camera using the generic driver in FlexScan3D. The software typically supports the following models:
- Most Canon or Nikon SLR cameras
- Point and Shoot Cameras with a WIA Driver
While point-and-shoot cameras will work, the capture speed and image quality will hinder your ability to get high-quality scans. We recommend using a Nikon or Canon SLR to capture good 3D scans. Images sizes larger than 10mp are not recommended as most PC’s do not have enough memory to process the dataset.

Light Projector
Any presentation projectors with 800x600 minimum resolution.(LED or DLP).
- Native projector resolution must be at least 800x600
- 1024x768 Minimum is recommended
- We support all projector resolutions above 1024 resolution
- 50 lumens or above, 1600 recommended
