Welcome to the June edition of 3D3 Solutions E-Newsletter. The 3D3 Team went to the Rapid Manufacturing Conference and Exposition which was co-located with the 3D Imaging Conference in May. The conferences showcased the latest technical information on reverse engineering and 3D imaging technologies for design, analysis and inspection. It focused on non-contact imaging technology to capture and process high-resolution 3D spatial geometries. This month's edition of the newsletter features highlights from the show.

LOW COST AUTOMATED 3D SCANNING PRESENTATION

presentation 2

During the conference our president, Thomas Tong, and Nasir Mannan from Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT) presented on the topic of Low Cost Automated 3D Scanning. CCAT is our added-value reseller that specializes in aerospace manufacturing. Below is a link to access the presentation slides:

3D3 SOLUTIONS AT RAPID

We exhibited at the 3D imaging area on the show floor along with our added-value reseller from CCAT. It was nice meeting customers who are currently using our 3D scanning systems and also those who are new to our 3D scanning technology.

Our team provided demonstrations of the HDI 3D Scanner at the show. Click on the video below for a demonstration of the 3D scanning process:

MAJOR BREAKTHROUGHS

Here are some exciting features to FlexScan3D we showcased at Rapid this year. All 3D scanning systems manufactured by our company use FlexScan3D as the 3D scanning application.

Align and Merge Scan Data Automatically
There is no need to spend time manually aligning scan data with FlexScan3D’s auto-alignment and merging features:

  • Photogrammetry Alignment - Sneak Preview
Place photogrammetry dots around or on the scanning object to automate data alignment. This process yields more accurate data alignment compared to other registration methods. This feature will be released in the upcoming months. Please click on the video below for a sneak preview:

  • Single and Multiple Axis Rotary Alignment
FlexScan3D supports single axis and multiple axis rotary tables that automates the alignment of resulting data. In the following video, Nasir Mannan from CCAT (our added-value reseller) demonstrates the process of automated 3D scanning using a multiple axis rotary table and Geomagic. Please click on the video below for a demonstration:

Control Multiple Scanners from a Single PC
In the past there was no simple way to acquire 3D data from multiple directions at the same time. The multi-head scanning system has the ability to control multiple scanners to acquire data from several directions. The scanned data is then automatically aligned and merged. This is an advance feature for an affordable 3D scanning system.

RAPID 2011

Next year Rapid will be exhibiting in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 24-26. 3D3 Solutions will be exhibiting again next year. Hope to see you there!
